Contractor Hits Gas Line

April 28, 2016

Today at 1330 hours we were dispatched to a report of a gas line struck by a contractor. Upon the arrival of Car 2552, E-160 and R-26 , it was observed that the service to the residential structure was torn in half and gas was venting from an excavation ditch. Buchanan Police Officer Shane Farrell was already in the process of evacuating residents in the nearby homes when we arrived. While awaiting Con Ed gas additional manpower was requested from the Montrose V.A. and E-225 and Car 2572 responded and deployed a precautionary 1-3/4" handline until the situation was under control and the line was capped. Personnel entered the nearby structure to check for gas levels and results were negative. The scene was then turned over to Con Ed gas. Another job well done by all of our agencies working together.
