Within the past week, our department responded to two structure fires in the Village of Buchanan.

On June 18, 2022 at approximately 0930 our department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in a residential house on Travis Avenue in the center of the village. Buchanan Police responded within seconds and ensured the house was evacuated. Engine 161 arrived on scene shortly thereafter and observed heavy smoke from the house, transmitting the "10-75" (our working fire assignment). This brought resources from around the area in to assist. There were no injuries and the fire was contained to the room it occurred in. It was deemed accidental by the Fire Chief with the assistance of the Westchester County Cause & Origin Team. Units from the Verplanck Fire District, Montrose Fire District, Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department, Cortlandt EMS, and the Franklin D. Roosevelt VA Hospital Fire Department responded to assist.

On June 21, 2022 at approximately 0800 our department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in a residential house on upper Fourth Street. The elderly homeowner's son extinguished the fire before arrival- and due to his actions likely saved the house. Chief Roush arrived on scene within minutes and established command. Crews checked for extension and confirmed there was none, and ventilated the house before turning the home over to the homeowner. ConEd Electric assisted us as well.
